Who we are

Intercultural Connections Initiative (ICI) is a non-profit arts organisation based in Edinburgh, UK. We work with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe to promote intercultural understanding through the arts.

If you have any questions about this privacy policy or how we handle your personal data, you can contact us at admin@intercci.com.

What personal data we collect and why

Mailing list subscription

We collect your email address only when you voluntarily subscribe to our mailing list via the subscribe form on our website. We use your email address solely to send you news updates about our organisation and activities.

We do not collect your name, postal address, phone number, payment information, or any purchase history. This website does not sell any goods or services.

Cookies

We do not use cookies to store personal information on this site. We do not use tracking cookies of any kind.

However, the site may use a third-party analytics service (such as Google Analytics or similar) which may set their own cookies. These cookies are controlled by the analytics provider, not by ICI. You can adjust your browser settings to refuse cookies if you prefer.

Third-party analytics

We may use a third-party analytics service to collect anonymised aggregate data about website visits. This includes information such as page views, referral sources, and browser type. This data cannot be used to identify you personally.

We use this information to understand how visitors use our site and to improve the website experience.

Lawful basis for processing

Under UK data protection law, we must have a lawful basis for processing your personal data. We rely on the following bases:

  • Consent — for mailing list subscriptions. You give us explicit permission by voluntarily submitting your email address through the subscribe form. You can withdraw your consent at any time by unsubscribing or contacting us.
  • Legitimate interests — for anonymised website analytics. This processing is non-intrusive, has minimal privacy impact, and helps us improve our website.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Your email address is shared only with the mailing list service provider we use to send our emails. They process your data on our instructions and are contractually obliged to keep it secure.

Anonymised analytics data is shared with our analytics provider. This data cannot identify you personally.

How long we keep your data

Email addresses: We keep your email address for as long as you remain subscribed to our mailing list. If you unsubscribe or request erasure, we will delete your email address promptly.

Analytics data: We keep anonymised analytics data in line with the analytics provider's retention policy (typically 26 months for Google Analytics).

International transfers

If we use a mailing list or analytics provider based outside the UK (for example, in the United States), your data may be transferred to and processed in that country. We ensure such transfers are covered by appropriate safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement (IDTA) or equivalent lawful mechanism.

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access — You have the right to ask us for copies of your personal information.
  • Right to rectification — You have the right to ask us to correct any information you think is inaccurate.
  • Right to erasure (right to be forgotten) — You have the right to ask us to delete your personal information.

  • Right to data portability — You have the right to ask that we transfer your information to another organisation.
  • Right to object — You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data.
  • Right to withdraw consent — When we rely on consent as our lawful basis, you have the right to withdraw your consent at any time.
